ERIC CHENAUX
(live)
Saturday 17 August ― 10h30
SPONDE
Sunday 18 August ― 10h30
A crystal-clear talent, an artist in a state of grace with a unique and personal style, Canadian Eric Chenaux over the past decade has revolutionized the world and the meaning of jazz-influenced songwriting: his records address the relationship between structure and improvisation, in very particular and unique ways, without cynicism but with love.
Eric has been living in France for a few years now, but he was a cornerstone of DIY and experimental music in Toronto in the 1990s and 2000s, a legend of local post-punk with Phleg Camp and Lifelikeweeds. He has been recording for Constellation Records since 2006: a brilliant discography ranging from the most adventurous, sumptuous, languorous and deconstructed folk to jazz and pop-influenced ballads. Eric also composes soundtracks and music for dance, and collaborates regularly with other artists including Marla Hlady and filmmaker Eric Cazdyn. He has also been in Canadian musician Sandro Perri’s band participating in several of his albums, and has played with Radwan Ghazi Moumneh, Martin Armold, Pauline Oliveros, John Oswald, Michael Snow, Han Bennink, Michael Moore, etc., among others.
