Stefano Pilia’s spiritual path has always seemed to point directly toward “Spiralis Aurea,” his extraordinary 2022 release for Die Schachtel, a deeply resonant work of art that weaves together traces of sacred geometry, collective experiences and elusive connections between nature and human beings.
“Spiralis Aurea Trio,” released in January 2024 by Maple Death Records, features the electric guitar ensemble formed by Stefano Pilia, Alessandra Novaga and Adrian Utley (Portishead) during three live performances in London (Cafe Oto), Lisbon (ZDB) and Rome (Teatro Basilica San Giovanni). An incredible document of pure beauty and execution, will, strength and composure.
The original cycle of compositions lives and breathes, adapting and transforming, taking their initial meaning and depth to new heights, keeping the concepts of “divine geometry” and their sacred mystique intact.
Showing a deep resonance with the works of La Monte Young, Arvo Pärt, Pauline Oliveros, Eliane Radigue, Krzysztof Penderecki and Terry Riley, who have witnessed trajectories of experimental music that push toward the spiritual, the divine and the metaphysical, “Spiralis Aurea” presents itself as a series of sonic meditations, leaving room within its broad forms for active listening. Recalling echoes of early music in its optimistic and forward-looking tones, Spiralis Aurea sculpts an extraordinary intersection of acoustic and electroacoustic processes, drone and chamber music, enhancing the literal and the abstract in the search for a higher order and meaning in a chaotic and uncertain world.
At Piedicavallo Festival, Stefano Pilia will play with musicians Giuseppe Franchellucci and Mattia Cipolli.
