At the core of Ute Wassermann’s research is an uncompromising exploration of the voice, creating otherworldly singing that transcends human boundaries into multidimensional, sculptural sounds. Her vocal expressions oscillate between electronic, animalistic, inorganic, and human qualities. Drawing inspiration from sound environments, she crafts imaginary acoustic habitats where her chameleon-like voice tunes into composed or found soundscapes. To extend and alienate her voice, Wassermann uses bird whistles, lo-fi electronics, resonators, and field recordings, engaging with everyday objects or self-invented vocal instruments that take shape as acoustic costumes.
